Submit

The submission period for the YCA Art Contest is now closed. Winners will be notified by email and all works will be posted on this website in mid-Novemeber. 

Before submitting, please review the rules and guidelines below. 

 

The theme for this contest is Water. Although interpretations of the theme are infinite, students are encouraged to think creatively and create visual art that communicates their understanding of their role in the water cycle and the world water crisis. 

 

The contest opens on September 1, 2020 and runs until October 28, 2020. All works are due by October 28th at 12:00 AM. 

 

A panel of jurors will review submitted works based on creativity, technique, and demonstrated understanding of humanity's role in the water cycle and the world water crisis. Winners will be notified in mid-November.

  1. ELIGIBILITY: Any student in grades 1st through 6th in San Mateo County, California. If you are unsure whether you live in this county, please refer to the list of cities within San Mateo County here

  2. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 

    1. The prerequisite to participating in this contest is to learn about the water cycle and the world water crisis. Students must review the video and short readings associated with their category on our website before creating their work. 

    2. There are no restrictions on artwork size and medium for this competition. Students are encouraged to express their understanding about the water cycle and the world water crisis creatively. 

    3. Each student may only submit one work of art. 

    4. The work that each student submits should be entirely their own. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited and use of copyrighted material will result in disqualification. 

  3. ENTRY SUBMISSIONS: 

    1. In order to be considered for the contest, students must complete and submit the entry form by the October 28th deadline. 

    2. When documenting their work, photos should be clear and taken in a well-lit space. Photos should be in PDF or JPG format and file size should not exceed 10MB. 

  4. GRADE DIVISIONS:

    1. Aqua Category: grade levels 1st-3rd

    2. Ultramarine Category: grade levels 4th-6th

  5. PRIZES:

    1. Each participant will receive a digital certificate for their participation. First, Second, and Third prizes will also be given to students in each category who present outstanding work.

      1. First Prize: $75 in sustainable prizes, Set of 24 Prismacolor Pencils, Canson Mix Media Sketchbook

      2. Second Prize: $50 in sustainable prizes, Set of 24 Prismacolor Pencils, Canson Mix Media Sketchbook

      3. Third Prize: $25 in sustainable prizes, Set of 24 Prismacolor Pencils, Canson Mix Media Sketchbook

    2. Teachers of winners will receive $75 in sustainable prizes.

    3. It was previously stated that winners and teachers would receive gift cards. Unfortunately, there was a      complication with obtaining these cards. As a result, winners and teachers will receive sustainable gifts of the same value.
